This feminine figure represents Eve the mother of all living. While posed in pensive contemplation with her left hand resting at her chest, in her right hand, Eve holds Cali lilies; Cone-like flowers thought to symbolize trumpets heralding victory. This sculpture depicts Eve heart felt pondering of joy and pleasure as well as pain and sorrow. Eve is a heroin who quietly embraced all of life: the good and bad the defeats and victories. Eve was command to not partake of the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. “Nevertheless” said God, “Thou mayest choose for thyself.” When a serpent enticed Eve to eat the fruit, she expressed that she wouldn’t partake because she knew the consequence was death. However, the serpent convinced her to eat the fruit and said, “Ye Shall not surely die… but be as gods, knowing good from evil.” Eve saw the tree (knowledge) was good…and desired to be wise, so she partook. As the story goes, she gave some of the fruit to Adam and they both were cast out of the garden, thus begun mankind’s mortal state of being. “Eve” is a heroines who embrace life’s many tears and much laughter… but it is good.
This delightful oil painting was painted in Orderville, UT a Plain Air painting on a alley that only an artist would notice. The goats were fortunately in a pin.
